Global Nature Conservation

The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo is a full member in a number of international organizations, including the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the Europe Association of Zoos (EAZA) and Aquaria, and Species360, an international dynamic database of species.

Species360 provides a sophisticated system of information management, along with various tools which allow zoos to establish and manage full reporting of their zoological collections, means of treatment, medical history of illness and injuries, and other categories. Additionally, the system enables access to millions of animals at zoos, aquariums, and nature conservation organizations throughout the world. The vision of Species360 is to create a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange between zoos, aquariums, and nature conservation organizations around the world to simplify the management of local, regional, and international collections of various animals.

EAZA – The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria enables its members to exchange animals in danger of extinction to enrich the zoological collection and aid in breeding programs for endangered species through various tools to preserve stable and genetically healthy populations. The Biblical Zoo participates in a number of breeding programs for endangered species through maintaining and breeding several species. The zoo’s staff is involved with and leads several breeding programs under the umbrella of the EEP, the European Program for Endangered Species. Zoo representatives are active within the organization’s various management committees.

International bodies such as EAZA and WAZA have opened possibilities to zoos, such as courses and continuing education.

The EAZA Academy in Israel offers professional courses for Israeli zoo staff on an international level.

The zoo’s veterinary staff is active in the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians (EAZWV)
