Chinchilla fur is adapted to life at high altitudes. It is soft and has many layers. However this beautiful fur has caused the species’ mass extinction in the wild. On the other hand, they have become common pets and are today also bred on farms around the world and so have in fact become domesticated. Chinchilla are adapted to life in underground tunnels: very large eyes to see in the dark, large ears and long sensitive whiskers help them to feel and hear the environment as well as to detect approaching predators.
