Akia is a southern giraffe and a senior resident of the african exhibit. The new calf is 65 kg and 185 cm tall. Akia arrived in the zoo in 1996 and is one of out first giraffes. Akia, as well as all of our giraffes, is part of an international plan of preservation of her species.
For now, the mother and her baby are safe in the giraffe's house under the keen eye of the zoo keepers. Soon they will join the rest of the herd in the open yard.
Mazal Tov Akia!
